International Rare Disease Day was initially celebrated in 2008 on therare day, February 29. It is now celebrated annually on February 28 or February 29 during leap years.
It was EURORDIS which launched Rare Disease Day with the aim of raising awareness among the population and governments about the experiences of the 300 million people affected by rare diseases across the world.
The goal of this campaign is to achieve equity for people living with a rare disease and their families: equitable access to diagnosis, care, treatment and social inclusion.
The RQMO celebrates Rare Disease Day every year as part of its Month of Zebruary. Activities are organized throughout the month of February.
